About paying us

Is the free plan really free?
Yes. There is no card, no trial expiry, and no "limit your mailbox unless you pay." We need paid users to keep the lights on, but we'd rather let you make that decision than corner you into it. The free plan is good enough for most people.
What's the catch?
There isn't one. The free tier costs us about $0.40 a year per user to run, which is paid for by people on Plus and Pro. We make a small margin on those plans and use it to pay six salaries.
Can I downgrade later?
Anytime, with no penalty. If you downgrade past your storage limit, we won't delete anything — you just can't receive new messages until you free up space.
Do you offer student or non-profit pricing?
Plus is free for verified students (.edu, .ac.uk, .ac.ca addresses) for as long as they're enrolled, renewed annually. Verified non-profits get Pro at half off. Email support@mailcedar.com.
What payment methods do you take?
Credit and debit cards via Stripe, plus Interac e-Transfer for Canadian customers who'd rather not use a card. We are working on accepting Monero for users who want it.
What happens if I stop paying?
Your account drops to the free tier. You keep your address and 5 GB of your mail. If you're over the free quota, we keep everything for 60 days then start deleting oldest first — and we email you 14, 7, and 1 days before that happens.
Refunds?
Within 30 days, full refund, no questions. After 30 days, prorated refund of any unused months on annual plans. Email billing@mailcedar.com and a human will reply.
What does "group account" actually mean?
Up to 6 people sharing one custom domain — useful for families or small teams. Each member gets their own mailbox; one admin handles the bill. Pricing is flat at $9/mo, not per-seat.
